#Theweekthatwas @ 01/12/2024

The first week of the last month of the year had several lessons:

  1. We teach our children how to #prioritise by showing them how we spend our time

  2. We tend to #judge and compare ourselves to others based on selective criteria of what's "good" and "bad"

  3. The world would be a very different place if the #relationship we have with ourselves was based on #rectification of our actions (tazkiyyah) and #purification of our hearts (tarbiyyah)

  4. When we lack a #vision for ourselves to work towards or a blueprint on which to base our pure state, then rectification and purification are not possible

  5. If #conversations about improving ourselves lead us to avoidance of the topic, we should consider what that's telling us

  6. Our relationships with others should be based on #justice (‘adl) and being favourable towards them (fadl), that is, giving them more than they deserve

  7. Blood may be thicker than water but #justice is thicker than blood

  8. The adage that "time is money" is not just misleading, it's simply incorrect: money comes and goes, #time will never return and is, in fact, devalued by being compared to a worldly currency

  9. Learning how to #invest our time is as, if not more, important than learning how to invest our money

  10. #Motivation or willingness alone is not sufficient to achieve sustainable #behavioural change; it also requires #discipline and #systems to reduce the risk of remission

  11. If all it took to #succeed was #knowledge, we'd all be tremendously successful
