A week filled with variety had much to teach me:

  1. Many, if not most, of life's interpersonal challenges can be resolved by conversation between open sincere hearts

  2. We have a much higher likelihood of success at improving ourselves over fixing others

  3. Viewing ourselves as the most important thing in the world can lead to an unhealthy (dis)regard of others

  4. When we reflect on the size of the known universe, let alone the unknown spaces, we start to recognise the insignificance of our existence

  5. When you don't have the full picture, diplomacy can sometimes be interpreted as concession when, in fact, it could be strategic

  6. Success is not achieved through perfection, it is instead achieved through consistent effort, failing, learning and persisting

  7. When we stray or hurt others, the most important thing, after acknowledging our wrong, is to seek forgiveness as quickly as possible

  8. Recognising and accepting our inability to control just about anything other than our own actions is remarkably empowering

  9. Those who have more by way of worldly standards tend to be less grateful that those who have less

  10. Faith is the ultimate confidence booster

  11. It’s interesting that we can readily accept that events (like earthquakes) on far sides of the world can affect us locally, yet we fail to accept that injustices in other parts of the world affect us locally as well

  12. When those in charge welcome foreign investigative agencies to setup shop in your town, you have to wonder where this world is going
