In a week of recovery, I learned that:

  1. No human being is infallible, which is why seeking sincere forgiveness must be part of our lifestyles

  2. Being proud of one's heritage or culture can become arrogance if we use that to look down on or judge others

  3. Weakness is not expressing that you have any, it's trying to make out like you have none

  4. Showing emotion is not a sign of weakness, inability to manage our responses and decisions based on emotion might be

  5. When we harbour ill-feeling towards others, we allow them to live rent-free in our heads and care-free in our hearts

  6. Who/what we turn to when things go completely sour, will tell us who/what our god is

  7. One of the greatest challenges (or opportunities) modern living presents is excessive amounts of free unproductive time

  8. Protecting our children is no longer a matter of keeping them indoors; in fact, it may be better to get them outdoors away from the threat of high-speed internet

  9. There are people in your life who will make you feel as though you're the worst person in the world and, fortunately, there are those who provide the balance

  10. Losing with arrogance makes you a loser; losing with learning makes you a better competitor

  11. Chasing the temporary highs of life distracts us from our ultimate purpose and destination
