#Theweekthatwas @ 25/05/2025

A full-on week taught me that:

  1. The kaupapa/mission is more important than my feelings

  2. Institutional racism is as much about doing something wrong as it is about not doing something about that which is wrong

  3. If you can't fix the world, fix yourself

  4. Being given an opportunity to serve is an honour, not a burden

  5. Civilisation is often mistaken for progress across all aspects of life

  6. Sometimes we have to look to the past for improvement

  7. When hurt is not addressed appropriately, it can turn into hate or, even worse, resentment

  8. If we hold on to hate or resentment, it'll eat us up from the inside

  9. If we always seek external validation of our worth, we will never achieve peace

  10. History, like the present, has many perspectives and only one absolute truth

  11. Our conscience is a piece of us which pre-dates our physical existence

  12. If we tend to listen to our conscience, we should consider ourselves one of the fortunate ones

  13. Working with young people is energising; sitting with elders is inspiring

  14. It’s good to laugh at ourselves (or our stereotypes) sometimes
