A week spent across three continents had several lessons:

  1. Too much pressure results in breakdown, too little results in mediocrity, while the right amount results in greatness

  2. Being kind to oneself doesn't mean allowing laziness to be all-consuming

  3. Trying to be everything to everyone results in being nothing to no one

  4. If our legacy to our children merely consists of material possessions, then we've failed in our mission as parents

  5. The mind has the power to will the body to accomplish almost anything

  6. Our rational brain defies the impossible while our creative brain defines it

  7. Discernment is what sets apart the knowledgeable from the wise

  8. We often forget that everything we have in this life is only on loan to us for a limited time

  9. Every one of us will be tested and put through trials which are appropriate and relative to our abilities and lifestyles

  10. Sometimes we have to accept that the right thing is not necessarily the thing that we're going to be most comfortable with

  11. Being in a position to take care of one's aged parents is a real honour

  12. It's necessary to have friends who are struggling and ones who are thriving - one, to keep one grounded and be helpful, and two, to experience mentorship and provide optimism

  13. Acknowledging one's weaknesses take tremendous strength
