A week of testing and being treated, taught me that:

  1. When you truly listen, you hear so much

  2. When you listen well, you hear what's said and what's not

  3. When you have something truly valuable to share, be prepared to be mocked, scoffed at or even abused

  4. Humility is associated with both elegance and strength

  5. Patience doesn't necessarily mean passiveness

  6. Small steps taken consistently are more rewarding and sustainable than one big jump

  7. If we're not honest with ourselves, any growth we achieve will be superficial and probably not sustained

  8. If we think we have it tough while we have food on our tables, a roof over our heads and no concern of being slaughtered in our sleep, we should think again

  9. We can see that support can be bought; but credibility has to be earned

  10. If a leader wants credibility, they need to be able to get their hands dirty from time to time

  11. A life of "and" is much more fulfilling and balanced than a world of "or"
