A celebratory and jarring week, taught me that:

  1. Passion can sometimes be misconstrued as zealousness

  2. Kids' joy is so innocent and palpable

  3. Saying racist things and then apologising for saying racist things doesn't erase your racism

  4. Being racist as an everyday member of society is a you problem, being racist when you represent the very body that stands for all human rights is a society problem

  5. When you lie many times about small things, lying about big things becomes easy; and lying about big things consistently opens the door to many evils

  6. When you're genuine about wanting to help, people can feel that about you and will seek you out

  7. Seeking feedback provides a fast-track for improvement and progress

  8. Purporting that everything is always fine closes the door to feedback, significantly impacting one's opportunity for growth

  9. An intention has the power to turn the ordinary into extraordinary

  10. When one lacks self-worth, a position of authority will trigger the ego, causing one to do strange things

  11. A small team of well-intentioned, well-led, capable individuals can make magic happen
